Kenneth M. Turley, 84, of Joplin, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at home, following a long illness.
He was born July 20, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, to Russell and Marguerite Morrison Turley.
Kenneth married Betty Jean Stickney on January 29, 1955 in Kansas City, MO. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Tom Turley and wife, JoAnne, Olathe, KS; one son, Berry Turley, of Desert Hot Springs, CA; three daughters, Elisa Bedell and husband, Don, Joplin, Katrina Farmer and husband, Dwayne, Wichita Falls, TX, Kenna Peters and husband, Mark, Pierce City, MO; sixteen grandchildren; forty one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and lifelong family friends, Geneva Andrews and her son, Steve , and daughter, Audrey “Dee” Bennett and husband, Rick.
He served in the U.S. Army. He later retired from Unisys corporation formerly Burroughs as a computer repair technician. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America earning his Eagle Scout Award and the Joplin Junior Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a mentor and father figure for many, sharing his love of learning with hundreds of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. He loved to travel, and visited all forty-eight of the lower continental states as well as several Mexican states and Canadian provinces. He along with his brother-in- law started a family campout. One week prior to his death, he attended the families fifty-second Halloween campout.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Robert, Morvan, Ronald “Jonesy” Turley; one son, Timothy Dwayne Turley, one grandson, DaKoda Hayes, and his life-long Army buddy, Aubrey Andrews.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Friday, at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Jeff D. Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the mortuary. Burial will take place at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
