Larry Eugene Comfort of Joplin, age 80, passed away September 30, 2018. Larry was born in Craig County, OK on November 18, 1937. He was the only child of George R. Comfort and Francis Helen (Andrews). He was a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. Larry graduated from Jasper High School, where he played football, baseball and participated in rodeos. He coached youth baseball teams from Farm Club to Babe Ruth leagues. He was a High School football referee. He attended Bethel Baptist Church. He retired from Eagle Picher Industries after 40 years and was President of the local union. Fishing was his favorite hobby after retirement, mainly at Roaring River. Larry enjoyed and was proud of his Grandchildren and his Great-Granddaughter, all of whom could bring him a smile.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and wife Lois (McKinney).
He is survived by wife Martha (Lindley Parker), son, David of Tulsa, daughter, Deanne Miller (Chuck) of Cape Fair, MO, Delores (Gunning) Comfort of Tulsa, (mother of their children). Lois’s children, Acel Little, Clayton Bickford (Shannon), Katrina Feller (Rick).
Grandchildren: Lauren Goddard (Lance), Jordan DeVries (Chris), Chad Miller, Kandice Gilliam, Kaycia Kyger (Brayden).
Great-Granddaughter: Adelyn Goddard.
Services will be held graveside for close family and friends on October 6, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with John Newberry officiating.
